Fret daddy - a great tool for beginner guitarists.

As you all know, the NAMM show (National Association of Music Merchants) was held a couple of weeks back. This is one of the largest music product trade shows in the world.

One of the many interesting products this year was something called Fret Daddy.

This is basically just stickers that you put on your fretboard of your guitar. Whats interesting about this is that you can see every notes location on the fretboard. This will not only help beginner guitarists that are unfamiliar with the fretboard and the notes location, but intermediate players as well. Its not very cheap for a few pair of stickers (aprox. 10$), but its worth it! It is available for classical guitar, bass and electric guitar.

This will definitely be used by guitar teachers all over the place.

  1. I saw something about these, I would be worried about the adhesive messing up the neck.

  2. Yeah, the adhesive might make it sticky, but it could probably be cleaned off pretty easily every time you change your strings.

  3. Well, to be honest, it looks a bit silly, but I think people who are starting will really appreciate it.

  4. Do you play guitar yourself? This would be handy for any beginner !

  6. That's pretty neat but I think I prefer the old way of learning.. This seems a bit elementary haha.

    Followed!

  7. This was very refreshing to read as a wannabe guitarist :D! Following.

  8. I have stickers on my guitar, only they don't label where the notes are.

  9. That seems like a really awesome idea, but I would have the problem of not being able to see the flat sides of the neck, and therefore not be able to read what's on top of the stickers.

I have been practicing very casually for 3 weeks and I find that I am learning a little bit at a time solidly. As I am not in any rush to do anything, I simply learn a little bit at a time and just practice what I know. The most problem I'm having is D-chord due to too much CS:Sing (EDSF, screw WASD).

  10. Holy crap this is so cool. I'm self taught after 8 years, and I think this would be amazing for people starting out.

  12. That looks pretty damn cool, that would help me, as I have a case of the "stupid fingers".

  13. Great principle, but with some other posters I'd be worried about the adhesive on the fret board :P

  14. Was given a guitar as a gift and have been wanting to learn how to play. This looks useful as shit.

  15. would have loved to have had these when i was 6... did that full-fret guitar game ever come out?

  16. That is genius. I kinda need that actually.

  17. The bad thing about these is that they tend to leave a mark. Not a glue mark, but darker patches on the fret where the stickers were after you have taken them off.

  18. can't wait to check out what more you have to offer to the music fanatics like myself!!

  19. @Auatarch
I've got a crappy Target guitar that these would be perfect for. I suppose you could just use marking pencil for the same effect and less damage though.

  20. Neat! These would be useful if, like, a school wanted to give intro guitar lessons to students or something. Though yeah, they do seem like they have the potential to leave a sticky mess...

  21. Seems pretty neat. I've considered learning the guitar, and almost bought one for christmas but I'm already busy with the piano so I'm not sure if I have the time for it. I certainly think these stickers could be useful.

  22. That's really neat! I play bass myself, but this is a really great idea. Now following. :D

  36. I may just buy me a set of these to stick on the first guitar I bought (one of those fancy Esteban learning ones with instructional DVDs lol). Nice find!

  37. Nice, my guitar skills need to be improved ... alot LOL :)

  40. These are a fantastic idea for beginner guitarists! They should make these for every instrument out there.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Hmm, maybe I should get this and actually learn how to play that bass that's been laying around.

  42. I've used this! They are amazing! And as they say on their website, the adhesive does NOT damage the surface of guitars - which appears to be a question many have. They are specifically designed not to. The package when you buy it says you can leave on for up to six months. Didn't damage mine. I left it on for a few months. Had to wipe the neck down a bit, but only took a minute or two.

would HIGHLY recommend. I'm a beginner/intermediate player and I was able to mess around with the A blues scale sticker set to come up with some new cool licks.
